One of my strongest childhood memorys is going out with my uncle, his mates and my cousins on the back of the Ute just as the sun was rising and riding ostriches. Which is not as easy as it looks and defiantly not as graceful as this photo.
Riding ostriches only ever happened after every one had been drinking all night and every one was drunk enough to decide that it was a good idea.
My uncle used to breed ostriches on his farm and no longer does but there are still some ostriches roaming around the property. Now there are two ways that we use to catch an ostrich. The first involves cornering it grabbing it by the neck, getting some one to climb on top and letting it go once the rider is ready. The other is to drive along next to it as its running and jump off the back of the Ute and onto the back of the ostrich. The only problem with this is that ostriches run rather fast and when your drunk making the jump isn’t an easy task.
Despite never having ridden an ostrich myself it was always fun times.
